FedEx Express was the first US-based global freight carrier to operate the 777-200F and took delivery of the first of this aircraft type, ship N850DN, on September 22, 2009. This model represents the FedEx Express Boeing 777-200 Freighter ship N850FD as it appeared when it was delivered.
The Boeing 777-200 Freighter is based on the 777-200LR (Longer Range) passenger airplane. It is designed to provide more capacity than any other twin-engine freighter and offers the lowest trip cost of any large freighter.
The Boeing 777 Freighter allows FedEx Express to do more for its customers and the environment. With a longer range than the current MD-11 freighters that it will be replacing for trans-pacific lanes, it can eliminate a fuel stop and increase delivery time providing customers in eastern China with a two hour improvement in cut-off times. In addition, the 777 Freighter uses 18 percent less fuel than the MD-11 on comparable routes, which means that it produces less carbon dioxide emissions. It also provides quieter takeoffs and landings that meet airport noise restrictions.
